Delhi to Dehradun has changed a lot with the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway opening in phases. Where the run used to take six or seven hours through Meerut and Muzaffarnagar, the expressway sections have pulled it under five.

The cheapest way to make this trip is cng hatchback at about ₹1,005 one way. A return journey is not quite double — FASTag charges a return within 24 hours at 1.5 times the single toll rather than twice.

Delhi–Dehradun Expressway / NH-334 is the main road for this trip. The older route through Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee on NH-58 is slower and busier but has more towns for stops.
Sections of the expressway have opened progressively, so check the live route before you set off — the fastest option today may not be the one you drove last year. Avoid Char Dham season peaks when Haridwar-bound traffic swells.
Cheetal Grand at Khatauli is the landmark break on the old route. On the expressway the facilities are newer and thinner on the ground — fuel up in Delhi.
Around five hours using the expressway sections, down from six or seven on the old Meerut–Muzaffarnagar route. Timings keep improving as more of the expressway opens.
Roughly ₹350 for a car one way, though this shifts as new expressway stretches come into use and are brought under toll. The calculator here uses live figures.
About ₹1,250 of petrol for a hatchback plus toll, so near ₹1,600 one way. A diesel SUV works out around ₹1,650.
The expressway is fine, but the final climb into Dehradun and anything onward to Mussoorie is better done in daylight.
